Teacher's Role
- Act as a facilitator - help the students stay on topic
- Involve all students in your classroom
- Plan for movement of students around the room, to and from microphones or equipment
- Remind students that there are people on both sides of the camera
- Encourage students to speak clearly and loudly into microphone
- Be sure to distribute handouts well in advance of the presentation.
- Look directly into the camera and speak in a normal voice
- Have a plan B ready, in case of technical difficulties
Student's Role
- To be knowledgeable about the subject and presentation
- Practice good speaking habits before the videoconference
- Be good listeners
- Have open ended questions prepared before the videoconference
Visuals
- Be sure to send handouts to the distant classroom well in advance of your class.
- Use images and graphics that communicate effectively. Make sure that the subject matter is large enough to be seen at first glance. Do not clutter the screen with too much information.
What to Wear
- Avoid wearing white, black, or very dark colors. White clothing will make your face look darker than normal. Details can be lost in dark clothing.
- Avoid complex patterns, they vibrate on the screen.
