• CTLE Professional Learning Hours

    Holders of professional certificates in the classroom teaching service, educational leadership service, and Level III teaching assistant are required to successfully complete 100 CTLE clock hours during the registration period if they practice in an NYS school district or BOCES. The professional learning hours must be provided by approved CTLE providers.

    The Genesee Valley BOCES, including the Student Support Services Center, is an approved provider of Continuing Teacher Leader Education (CTLE) professional learning hours.

    Certification Courses

    Child Abuse Identification and Reporting Certification Course

    This certification course is related to Chapter 544 of the Law of 1988 that identifies specific school staff in New York State who are required to complete a two-hour Child Abuse Identification and Reporting certification course.  The law indicates this certification course will include physical and behavioral indicators of child abuse, when and how to make a report, what actions a reporter is mandated or authorized to take as well as the legal protections afforded to a reporter.

    Harassment, Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention Certification Course (DASA)

    This certification course supports New York State’s Dignity for All Student’s Act (Dignity Act) and seeks to provide NYS public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function. The required length of this certification course is 6 clock hours, consisting of two parts.  

    Part 1 (3-hours) is online and Part 2 (3-hours) is online during the Covid-19 State of Emergency.  Participants will receive the online course log-in information and the deadline for completion via email.

    School Violence Prevention and Intervention (SAVE) Certification Course

    This certification course supports New York State’s Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) Act and identifies the context within which school districts must address the critical issues of safety and security.  This course includes a brief review of the statutes, regulations, and policies relating to a safe school climate, including the Dignity for all Students Act (DASA); the warning signs of violence and other behaviors within a child's developmental and social context; effective classroom management techniques; academic supports that promote a safe school climate and enhance learning such as the integration of social and problem-solving skill development for students within the regular curriculum; intervention techniques designed to address a school violence situation; and how to participate in an effective school/community referral process for students exhibiting violent behavior. The required length of this certification course is 2 clock hours.

    The Dignity Act and Bullying Prevention -- An Overview for Staff

    To support NYS school districts with ensuring ALL staff have an overview highlighting key components of the Dignity Act and their responsibilities, the Student Support Services Center has developed two brief informational webinars that can be used with small or large groups of staff or can be emailed to staff.

    The Dignity For All Students Act and Bullying Prevention: An Overview for Staff is designed to provide staff with a basic understanding of the Dignity Act, including and individual responsibilities, and school districts' responsibilities for creating a safe, and supportive learning environment for all students. The staff overview webinars are ideal for Opening Day, Superintendent Conference Days, or Staff Professional Learning Sessions. Please contact the SSS Center for more information.
