Certification Courses

The Student Support Services Center is a NYSED approved provider for the certification courses identified below.  Upon receipt of your registration form, payment will be processed, a course enrollment will be created and login information will be emailed (please note this process can take several business days).  After course completion has been verified, a certificate of completion will be emailed and course completion will be transmitted to NYSED for documentation on TEACH (please note this process can take several business days).  All courses are asynchronous online courses with rolling enrollment.  All courses must be completed within 30 days of receiving course login information.  There are no exceptions.

Child Abuse Identification – Mandated Reporter Certification Course (CAI) Addendum

This Addendum is only available to those who have previously completed the Child Abuse Identification (CAI) Mandated Reporter Training through Genesee Valley BOCES between November 16, 2023 and August 5, 2025.  The Addendum includes guidance on identifying an abuse or maltreated child when such child is an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability per the most recent amendment to Section 413 of the Social Services Law.  Every person who has previously undergone the 2024 mandated reporter training related to child abuse, must take the Addendum by November 17, 2026.  The length of the Addendum is 20 minutes. 

Child Abuse Identification – Mandated Reporter Certification Course (CAI)

*Effective September 1, 2025, the CAI course will include the addition of guidance on identifying an abused or maltreated child when such child is an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability, as required by the most recent amendment of Section 413 of the Social Services Law.  The law requires every person who is required to take the mandated training related to child abuse, including those who have previously undergone the training, to take the new updated training by November 17, 2026.  

This certification course addresses the requirements for the Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, as mandated by Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2021 amended Social Services Law § 413.  Specific professionals, including certain school staff in New York State are identified as Mandated Reporters and are required to complete the Child Abuse Identification (CAI) —Mandated Reporter certification course.  Course content includes adverse childhood experiences and trauma, implicit bias, the physical and behavioral indicators of child abuse, including in a virtual environment and when such child is an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability; when and how to make a report; what actions a reporter is mandated or authorized to take; the legal actions afforded to a reporter; and the consequences for failing to report.

The required length of this certification course is 2 clock hours; however due to required additional content, this course will take more than 2 hours.

Harassment, Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention Certification Course (DASA)
This certification course supports New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act (Dignity Act) and seeks to provide NYS public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying; including but not limited to, acts based on race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender or sex on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function.

The required length of this certification course is 6 clock hours. The course consists of two parts. Each part is 3 hours in length. Upon successful completion of DASA Part 1, login information will be emailed for DASA Part 2 (please note login information for DASA Part 2 can take several business days).

School Violence Prevention and Intervention (SAVE) Certification Course
This certification course supports New York State’s Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) Act and identifies the context within which school districts must address the critical issues of safety and security.  This course includes a brief review of the statutes, regulations, and policies relating to a safe school climate, including the Dignity for all Students Act (DASA); the warning signs of violence and other behaviors within a child's developmental and social context; effective classroom management techniques; academic supports that promote a safe school climate and enhance learning; intervention techniques designed to address a school violence situation; and how to participate in an effective school/community referral process for students exhibiting violent behavior.

The required length of this certification course is 2 clock hours. 

 Please note that the certification courses are not optimized for mobile devices, including but not limited to:

  • Mobile phones (iPhone, Android Phone, etc.) 

  • Tablets (Android, Apple, Blackberry, etc.)

  • Smartwatches

The course platform does not function well with Apple products, and the course platform does not function well with Chrome and Chromebooks, especially those who are part of a school district network. A better option is a Windows computer system and compatible browsers such as the current version of Edge or Firefox.
