VOICES OF GV BOCES: Ty A.

“I like being in the LIVES program because I get to be with my friends and learn how to navigate different places and be the best version of myself. Being on a college campus is fun—it’s a new experience, but it’s a good one.

At first, it was a little scary trying to figure everything out, but after a couple days you get used to it. Everyone’s really nice here, so that helps a lot.

I like my classes, especially gym and math. In gym we’ve been doing yoga lately. One of my favorite things we do is Fun Fridays. We hang out with college students through Best Buddies and do different activities. My favorite ones are when we play sports.

I also work at Wegmans. I’ve been there for about a year and a half. I do helping hands, carts, cleaning, and sometimes stocking shelves. It’s been a really good experience. I like the people there, and they like me. It’s a good place to work.

One thing I really enjoy is Great Day. I help lead and speak in front of everyone about the program. I’ll start things off and help others feel ready. I don’t mind talking in front of people—I like helping others feel comfortable doing it too.

If someone is thinking about coming to LIVES but feels nervous, I’d say give it some time. You’ll find your people here. Just keep going and do what you love.”
