GV BOCES is excited to welcome Brooklyn, a nearly 2-year-old mini goldendoodle, as the newest member of our team! Brooklyn is currently training to become a certified therapy dog and will soon be ready to support our students, staff, and communities.
Brooklyn is hypoallergenic and has a sweet, gentle nature. She’s spending time in school settings with her handler, Casey Van Epps, to become comfortable around busy hallways, classrooms, and the everyday bustle of school life. This preparation will help her bring comfort, calm, and connection to those who need it most.
Casey is part of the TIG (Trauma, Illness, and Grief) service, which recently expanded to include therapy dog services.
Why Therapy Dogs in Schools?
Research shows that therapy dogs can:
Reduce stress and anxiety
Improve mood and emotional regulation
Encourage social interaction and communication
Provide comfort during challenging times
Support trust, empathy, and resilience in students
We can’t wait to see Brooklyn blossom in her new role, bringing comfort and joy to everyone she encounters. Her journey is just beginning, but her impact is already being felt.
