The 2026 Capital Improvement Project is a strategic plan to secure the future of the Genesee Valley BOCES(GVB). This initiative is a $42.8 million-dollar investment in the regional learning environments that serve students in our 22 component districts. The project will ensure students enrolled in GVB coursework are in learning environments conducive to programmatic needs. This proposal is the result of a disciplined prioritization process. The approach combined a New York State required Building Condition Survey, along with addressing the regional needs of students in regards to Career and Technical Education (CTE), Special Education, and Alternative Education.
GVB by the Numbers:
• 1,450 students attend CTE
• 45% of eligible Juniors and Seniors in the region attend CTE
o Enrollment has increased 350 students in the last decade.
• Diesel Technician, Electro-Mechanical Trades, Auto Mechanics, Metal Trades (welding & machining), Power Sports, Cosmetology, and Special Education are proposed to get new spaces, or updated/renovated instructional spaces.
• 250 students attend Special Education and Alternative Education programs.
• 500 Adult Education Students attend various GVB programs each year
• 1,800 regional employees attend professional learning hosted, facilitated, or designed by GVB program experts.
GVB has only completed one capital project (2005 – 2007) in 32 years. The project includes the following renovations:
• Roofs and HVAC systems are all 20+ years old and have (or are reaching) end of life
o 54 HVAC roof top units are being addressed
o 45,000 square feet of roofing has to be replaced
o 180,000 square feet of pavement
• Redesign traffic flow for arrival and departure to create a safe, organized space
• New and expanded, safe entrances
• Upgraded communication systems to ensure reliability at critical moments.
