A new chapter is ahead for Genesee Valley BOCES’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program, and the organization is looking for a community partner to help make it possible.
With Genesee Valley BOCES moving forward with its 2026 Capital Improvement Project, the area currently used for CDL training will be impacted by upcoming improvements. The change has created an opportunity to establish a new training location and build a partnership with a local business, property owner or organization that shares a commitment to strengthening the region’s workforce.
“This is about more than finding a place to train,” said Jon Sanfratello, Assistant Superintendent of Adult Education & Workforce Development. “It’s an opportunity to build a partnership that creates career opportunities for adults and supports employers throughout our region. We know there are organizations in our community that believe in workforce development, and we’re excited to see where a partnership like this could lead.”
Through Genesee Valley BOCES Adult Education, CDL training prepares adults to pursue Class A and Class B commercial driver’s licenses and careers operating tractor-trailers, buses, dump trucks and other commercial vehicles. The program provides another pathway for individuals looking to enter a new field, advance their careers or develop skills that can connect them with employment opportunities.
For a potential training site, Genesee Valley BOCES is looking for a paved or open area with sufficient room to safely maneuver commercial vehicles and appropriate access for training vehicles. A variety of locations and partnership arrangements could be considered.
The search comes at an exciting time for Genesee Valley BOCES. The Capital Improvement Project represents a significant investment in instructional spaces, infrastructure and facilities serving students across its 22 component school districts. As those improvements take shape, Genesee Valley BOCES is looking beyond its campuses for opportunities to strengthen connections with businesses and organizations throughout the region.
A new CDL training partnership would give a local organization the opportunity to play a direct role in preparing people for careers and supporting the workforce needs of the Genesee Valley region.
