Twenty-five students from 6th to 10th grade across Genesee County celebrated this past Friday after completing a trail bridge in Genesee County Park & Forest. This achievement marks the 10th project completed by Camp Hard Hat members in the park over the past eight years. The program, taught by GV BOCES instructors, introduces students to the building trades by combining math, process thinking skills, power tool usage, safety, and the benefits of teamwork. They also learn the principles of design and construction from local industry leaders.

The Special Education Summer Summit 2024 was a success. Educators and administrators from the area, including Christopher Suriano, Assistant Commissioner of Special Education, attended. This year, we had two students speak during the Regional Student Spotlights, and they were truly inspiring. Anneka Pray, a recent graduate of Pembroke Central School, shared her experiences of being blind from birth and how she navigated school, sports, and the challenges she faced. Sam Drake from Wayland Cohocton Central School spoke about his proposal of Braille to the Board of Education and his experiences with inclusion in a public school setting using assistive technology. The summit also featured breakout sessions and guest speakers. Thank you to everyone who attended.
