
February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, and we’re excited to highlight our Culinary Arts students who are mastering the art of food preparation and hospitality!
Training in a large commercial kitchen, students gain hands-on experience in food production, menu development, customer service, and banquet management. They also complete the Serve Safe safety and sanitation course, ensuring industry-standard knowledge in kitchen operations.
From appetizers to desserts, including international cuisine, students refine their culinary techniques while managing a café and dining room that serves faculty, staff, and guests. With career opportunities ranging from prep cook to executive chef, these students are preparing for a future in the fast-paced world of food service and hospitality.

These tiny tabs may seem small, but when recycled, they help provide housing and support for families with seriously ill or injured children. Through hands-on learning experiences, guest speakers, mock trials, and field trips, students explore various aspects of policing, courts, and corrections. They also develop an understanding of federal, state, and local laws and their impact on the community.

Training in a fully-equipped salon, students develop hands-on skills in hairstyling, coloring, skincare treatments, and nail care. Advanced students apply their expertise in a salon environment, gaining real-world experience. Those who complete 1,000 hours and pass the course are eligible to take the New York State Licensing Exam, opening doors to careers in salons, spas, and beyond.

These students learn to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment like backhoes, bulldozers, and chainsaws while mastering skills in tree identification, woodlot management, excavation, and drainage projects. They also develop expertise in landscaping, horticulture, and the design and construction of outdoor structures such as decks and sheds.
Applying their skills to real-world projects, Conservation students play a key role in site excavation and landscaping at construction sites alongside Building Trades students. With career opportunities in highway departments, excavating, construction, logging, and landscaping, these students are preparing to make a lasting impact on the environment and the industry.

From residential framing to electrical wiring, these students gain hands-on experience in every aspect of building and remodeling, including:
Mastering carpentry, cabinet making, and blueprint reading
Learning residential wiring, plumbing, and heating system installation
Constructing and remodeling real structures for practical experience
Using hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment while following OSHA safety standards

Graduating seniors from local school districts and every Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at GV BOCES attended the Graduating Seniors Job Fair at the Batavia Campus. Students had the opportunity to engage with employers and explore career opportunities in various industries. Participating companies included Arc GLOW, Nortera, Tambe Electric, Tompkins Community Bank, Rochester Technology & Manufacturing Association, Liberty Pumps, OXBO, and Villager Construction. This event provided students with valuable insights into local career opportunities as they prepare to enter the workforce.

The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP) is celebrating another year of connecting Genesee Valley BOCES – Batavia Campus students with hands-on career opportunities in advanced manufacturing. During the annual Signing Day at Genesee Community College, over 40 students from electromechanical and metal trades programs signed on for paid co-ops and job shadows with companies like OXBO, DP Tool, TAMBE, Nortera, Gorbel, and Koike Aronson Ransome.
FLYAP, established by the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association in partnership with Monroe Community College, continues to bridge the gap between education and industry, providing students with real-world experience in high-demand fields.

During CTE Month, we're proud to shine a spotlight on the hardworking students in our Agriculture Production program who are turning their passion for farming and large animals into valuable skills and future opportunities.
These determined students spend their days:
🐄 Caring for large animals, gaining hands-on experience with livestock and farm operations
🔧 Learning about animal health, nutrition, and farm management, preparing for careers in veterinary services, and agricultural production
🌱 Exploring sustainable farming practices, balancing the needs of animals, people, and the environment
From feeding and grooming livestock to mastering resource management, these students are shaping the future of agriculture with knowledge, dedication, and heart.


A new generation of first responders is stepping up! The newly launched EMS Program at Mount Morris CTE Center is training high school students to save lives and serve their communities. Tenth-grade students from Keshequa Central School, York Central School, and Gilead had the opportunity to visit the Mount Morris CTE Center, where they explored a variety of career and technical education programs. This hands-on experience allowed them to learn more about potential career paths and discover programs that align with their interests and future goals!
