Genesee Valley BOCES Mount Morris elementary students are having a great time with the bowling unit! They get to practice their skills and learn the rules of the game. Each roll brings excitement and a chance to improve. Bowling has quickly become a favorite activity for many!
With the beautiful weather this week, our Animal Science students at Mount Morris CTE had the perfect opportunity to complete their Horse Module with a hands-on grooming day! Our pony, Mary Poppins, and our horse, Sunny, enjoyed some well-deserved pampering as students practiced their equine care skills. From brushing and mane care to bonding with these gentle animals, it was a rewarding and educational experience for everyone involved!
This weekend, students from the Mount Morris CTE Culinary Arts program competed in the New York Restaurant Association's ProStart Invitational Culinary Competition at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. The team secured 3rd place in New York State!

Tonight, the enrichment program hosted the final round of the Scholastic Bowl. The remaining teams were from Pembroke CSD, Akron CSD, and Notre Dame. It was a close and competitive match, with all teams performing well. In the end, Pembroke secured first place, Akron finished second, and Notre Dame took third. The event showcased the students' knowledge and teamwork. It was an exciting conclusion to the competition. Congratulations to Pembroke CSD on their victory, and great job to Akron and Notre Dame for their strong performances in the Scholastic Bowl final!
Batavia CTE students in Auto Technology and Diesel collaborated this week for a special learning experience. A NAPA manager traveled from Georgia to give a presentation on the business and the manufacturing of parts. After the session, students headed into the shop to gain hands-on experience. Together, they learned the process of performing a car alignment.
Batavia CTE Culinary Arts students are hard at work making fresh mozzarella from scratch! From stretching to shaping, they’re mastering the art of cheese-making. Hands-on learning never tasted so good!
GV BOCES Mount Morris elementary students had a magical visit this week! The 'Bullying Magician' amazed with tricks while sharing the importance of kindness, friendship, and standing up against bullying. Students joined in the fun, creating unforgettable laughter and lessons!
Don't forget—Genesee Valley BOCES is collecting aluminum pop tabs throughout March to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester! These tiny tabs may seem small, but when recycled, they help provide housing and support for families with seriously ill or injured children. Drop-off boxes are available in the main offices at all GV BOCES locations. Every little tab adds up to make a big difference. Mount Morris CTE Cosmetology seniors had an amazing opportunity to visit Scott Miller Salon & Spa! They watched a top professional demonstrate a haircut and blow-dry, met the inspiring owners Scott & Helen Miller, and even participated in open interviews! Experiences like these help shape the future of our students, giving them real-world insight into the beauty industry. A huge thank you to Scott Miller Salon & Spa for their hospitality and expertise!
For the second year in a row, the Mount Morris CTE Center has produced a 1st place champion at the AWS Regional Welding Competition! 🏆 Our students went up against the best in the region, demonstrating their incredible skill, knowledge, and dedication.

As we wrap up CTE Month, we’re excited to highlight the Sports Science Academy, where students develop skills in sports management, athletic training, coaching, and body conditioning. Our Cosmetology students continue to make a difference! Check out these moments from our February visit to the Wyoming County Veterans Outreach in Warsaw, where our students provided free haircuts to veterans and their families. With over 100 haircuts completed at this location this school year, we’re proud to give back to those who have served. Mount Morris CTE Center Cosmetology students had an incredible opportunity to learn from a special guest, John Gould, master barber and co-owner of Studio 22 in Rochester, NY! John demonstrated professional techniques, including a flawless skin fade and a straight razor shave, while sharing his inspiring journey into barbering. He provided valuable insights on breaking into the industry after graduation and introduced students to specialty tools of the trade. A huge thank you to John for his time, expertise, and motivation!
February is CTE Month, and we’re excited to highlight our Justice Academy students who are gaining a broad understanding of the legal field. This program provides a strong foundation in law enforcement, forensic science, social work, and legal studies, preparing students for careers in a variety of justice-related fields.
