February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, and we’re excited to highlight our Conservation students who are gaining hands-on experience in environmental and outdoor careers!
These students learn to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment like backhoes, bulldozers, and chainsaws while mastering skills in tree identification, woodlot management, excavation, and drainage projects. They also develop expertise in landscaping, horticulture, and the design and construction of outdoor structures such as decks and sheds.
Applying their skills to real-world projects, Conservation students play a key role in site excavation and landscaping at construction sites alongside Building Trades students. With career opportunities in highway departments, excavating, construction, logging, and landscaping, these students are preparing to make a lasting impact on the environment and the industry.

These students gain hands-on experience in building and maintaining computer networks, troubleshooting hardware and software, and designing and managing websites using industry-standard tools. They develop programming skills, work with business applications, and install software while configuring systems and multimedia technology.

Genesee Valley BOCES is collecting aluminum pop tabs throughout February and March to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester. These tiny tabs may seem small, but when recycled, they help provide housing and support for families with seriously ill or injured children. Drop-off boxes will be available in the main offices at all GV BOCES locations. Every little tab adds up to a big difference! Start collecting today and help us make an impact.

Using hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment while following OSHA safety standards

Graduating seniors from local school districts and every Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at GV BOCES attended the Graduating Seniors Job Fair at the Batavia Campus. Students had the opportunity to engage with employers and explore career opportunities in various industries. Participating companies included Arc GLOW, Nortera, Tambe Electric, Tompkins Community Bank, Rochester Technology & Manufacturing Association, Liberty Pumps, OXBO, and Villager Construction. This event provided students with valuable insights into local career opportunities as they prepare to enter the workforce.

The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP) is celebrating another year of connecting Genesee Valley BOCES – Batavia Campus students with hands-on career opportunities in advanced manufacturing. During the annual Signing Day at Genesee Community College, over 40 students from electromechanical and metal trades programs signed on for paid co-ops and job shadows with companies like OXBO, DP Tool, TAMBE, Nortera, Gorbel, and Koike Aronson Ransome.
FLYAP, established by the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association in partnership with Monroe Community College, continues to bridge the gap between education and industry, providing students with real-world experience in high-demand fields.

A new generation of first responders is stepping up! The newly launched EMS Program at Mount Morris CTE Center is training high school students to save lives and serve their communities. The GV BOCES Dansville Campus Special Olympics Floorball Team—Lilly, Hunter, Zach, Todd, Abby, Maddy, Christen, Toby, Travis, Lucas, and Dylan—had an impressive showing at their recent tournament! After a 1-0 victory in the preliminary game, they secured a 9-3 win in their first tournament match before facing a tough opponent in Game 2. Team members scored a total of 11 points, with contributions from Travis, Lilly, Hunter, Dylan, Zach, and Maddy. Missing from the team photo are Hunter, Todd, and Christen. Coaches Rick and Sam are proud of their team's hard work and sportsmanship!
