The Genesee Valley BOCES operates one of the largest school Health, Safety, and Risk Management (HRSM) Services in New York state. Our staff provides support to 63 school districts and four BOCES in the central Finger Lakes and Rochester areas of the state.
This service provides assistance to local districts regarding the requirements, interpretations and applications of various state and federal laws related to health and safety, including:
NYS Right-to-Know Law and Federal Hazard Communication Standards (chemical safety)
NYS DEC, DOT and federal EPA hazardous waste laws
NYS Uniform Building and Fire Prevention Code
NYS and EPA bulk petroleum storage regulations
NYS Health Department swimming pool regulations
NYS Department of Labor PESH/OSHA requirements ranging from respiratory protection to bloodborne pathogen exposure control
State and federal asbestos regulations
NYS Emergency Preparedness Planning requirements (including Project SAVE and Homeland Security)
NYS Annual Structural and Fire Safety Inspection requirements
Federal lead and radon testing recommendations
Indoor air quality standards and evaluations
NYS Public School Building Safety Codes (including RESCUE)
NYS pesticide regulations
NYS Cardiac AED (Defibrillator) regulations
In addition to these building and staff-related services, bus driver training and certification for compliance with NYS DMV Article 19-A regulation is also offered.
